for being an artist, I'm quite the control freak -- not a huge shock for those that know me personally (and, also the reason I minored in math).  my art has always reflected my need for order, calculation and direction whether it be through my highly-detailed portrait work throughout college, or more recent landscapes.  suddenly, however, I'm finding myself getting lost in the works of these ladies below.  I'm obsessed with the raw, unrefined drips and brushstrokes, and the energy present within each piece.

this is something that I have finally become brave enough to experiment within my own work.  once I got over the fear of relinquishing control to the vast black hole of my imagination, it is actually quite liberating.  I'm not sure that I will ever be able to let go of some assemblance of a horizon line, or add neon to my palette ;) but I certainly like this direction I'm headed.

3. michelle armas (bottom left) 4. claire desjardins (middle left)

p.s. these artists have some seriously fantastic and inspiring blogs, too.  I might be a little bias, but check 'em out!

  2. Thanks Allie! I'm so honored to be your one of your inspirations :)

And I know that you can push the boundaries of your work. Practicing pushing it a little everyday--do something you've never done before, even if its just something small. In the end will take you places you could never dream you would go.
