upcoming show + prep

Friday, August 22, 2014

If you follow me on facebook or instagram, you may have already saw my exciting announcement for an upcoming solo show!  And if not, here are the deats all over again ;)

The gallery titled the show Fog of Perception -- pretty on point.

Show opens August 28th at The Fine Arts Company in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The opening reception is Saturday, September 13th from 6-8 pm.  (I'll be there, so come say hi!)

The show will run through the month of September, closing September 26th.

While this isn't my first solo show, it is the first show of my work in my hometown, which means its the first show all my friends and family can see.  Pretty cool!  And no pressure at all ;)

In the next few days, I'm tying up loose ends prepping all of my pieces to be displayed.  Wiring canvases, touching up any blemishes, and even adding a few last minute additions to the show.

I always like to have a wide variety of price points, something for everyone - so I'm making sure to stock up on my collection of original watercolor paintings on paper.  They'll be matted for the show, and all for sale under $100.

My awesome summer residency has ended, and I'm looking forward to getting back into my rhythm in my charming, little studio.  So far I've been binge watching all of my guilty pleasures (currently Pretty Little Liars -- don't judge me!), and enjoying the uninterrupted silence.

Stay tuned for more details, and an exciting house update! (its **almost** ready to move in!)

this week's painting | with devotion.

Thursday, July 3, 2014

I've been busy here in the studio the past few weeks, working on a new series of paintings and branching out into new proportions compared to my typical square canvases.  I've also been experimenting building more texture within the surface, and the happy accidents that evolve.

The painting I'm listing this week is titled, with devotion. oil on 24" x 48" canvas.

It's listed in my shop here.

It was the first piece I painted since being married, hence the title... I'm going to miss this one.  It's currently on display in my studio at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum in Winchester, VA.

Hope everyone has a great Independence Day!

best year ever?

While I've been gone, this happened...

(I got married!!!!)

and then this...

We bought a house!

(quite the fixer-upper!)

and now I'm working here...

I'm the summer Artist-in-Residence at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum in Winchester, VA!

I'm working on getting back into the swing of things, and will be updating the shop very soon with new pieces I've been working on.  Thank you all so much for your patience and support over the past few months.  It's been a crazy (awesome!) year!

Thankful

Thank you all for supporting me over the YEARS! It's been nearly three years since graduating college, and I can't believe how far I've come from that scared, lost girl entering the real world.  There's most certainly a few moments, of "Oh my gosh, what the heck am I doing?" but then I remind myself "Oh right, following my dreams" :)

Thank you all for letting me chase this crazy dream!

All paintings listed in my shop are 30% off when you use the code THANKSGIVING30 at checkout.  The sale will run through this weekend, until Sunday at Midnight.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I know it's been a bit mum around here this past month.  Believe me, it's been killing me not to share more of the latest happenings, but I didn't want to say anything before it was an absolute done deal.  But if you follow me on instagram you may have seen some hints...

Today, I'm excited to say I can finally share a VERY exciting collaboration with the incredibly talented Stephanie Bradshaw and her wonderful team.  Stephanie is an event and interior designer (and has pretty much the coolest job ever!) in Baltimore.  If I wasn't a painter I would totally want her life.

Social media is once again an amazing thing, as I found her through instagram earlier this summer.    When I discovered that she was just 90 min drive away I could barely contain my excitement.  I sell most of my work online these days, so it's a rare thing now to have face-to-face interactions with any of my clients or colleagues.  SO refreshing to actually be able to meet Stephanie (and her adorbs pup Brooks) in her beautiful studio in the Clipper Hill neighborhood of Hampden.

This past month I've been diligently working (and playfully experimenting with gold leaf, EEK!) to create a custom collection of 5 pieces for the Stephanie Bradshaw SHOP.  My work is along side two other super talented artists, K.M. Scotto and Dani Wagner.  I love that all of our work is so different, yet complimentary with a continuing thread of gold accents and graphic qualities.  My work is a bit quieter and subtle in comparison, but I think it'll fit into Stephanie's collection wonderfully.

To purchase any of these pieces, visit the SB Shop here.

____________

Glad to have this project well underway so I can take a breath and then return my attention back to my own shop inventory.  It's been dwindling, but then again that's a good problem to have :)  Hope to be refreshing with a few new pieces within the next month or two.

Also, my commission queue now has two openings for this month!  E-mail me to get your custom painted started.

experimenting with gold leaf and gold oil paint for an exciting new collaboration.

Any tips for working with gold lead?  It's a tricky little fellow.  I'm using PVA for sizing, and then layering over with a latex sculpting medium for additional texture and oil paint.  I haven't let myself go this abstract, like ever, so it's been quite the liberating experience.

I'm a new believer - when in doubt, just add gold!
